India's Independence Day (2007)

India's Independence Day in 2007 - is it India's 60th or 61st Birthday. I would say it is India's 61st Birthday and 60th Anniversary.

Some of our area websites and desi radio programs keep saying "India's 60th Birthday" in relation to this year's (2007) Independence Day Celebration at Hart Plaza, Detroit and Rock Financial Showplace, Novi, MI.

So what do you think?

anniversary is like on a birthday someonw completes x no. of years, so in case of Indian independance it's 1947 to 2007 which clearly means 60 completed year..implies 60th Anniversary. yes, ofcourse it's the start of 61st yr. of Independent India......Why didn't no one argued in 2006 whether 59th OR 60th ?????? i am Gunjan,Delhi.

60th Anniversary is OK. But it has to be 61st Independence Day since we have to count the day of Independence i. e. 15th August 1947 as the first Independence Day.

Absolutely this is the 61st Independence day we are celebrating and would be 60th Anniversary of Independence.
1st Independence day was celebrated on 15th Aug, 1947..2nd 1948, 3rd on 1949 ....so on and 61st now in 2007...
