Mumtaz, if you could ask Terri Lyn Land that what is so threatening about the those who are here legally on H1 and F1 visas. Why are they being penalized here. Ultimately the state will suffer as skilled H1's will think twice before coming to Michigan. The Universities/colleges in Michigan will suffer as F1 students will opt for university/college in another state.
Regards
Actualy, this issue is already being addresses with the Governor at this moment. If our community desires a better outcome for our H1 and F1 individuals, we need to contact our local state represenatives.
We have already been in contact with Mr. Ramesh Verma who has been appointed by Governor Grantholm and they are aware of this issue.
Keep in mind the reason for this is a Matter of National Security for the country. How terrorist groups could rent vehicles in the USA. It has to do with no provision for the Driver's License to expire when the Visa does for our H1, F1 and J1 recipients.
Additionally, Insurance companies do not know if individuals with liability go back to their country of origin and leave them to be liable. That is also an issue. Not to mention the illegal aliens that also obtain licenses under false pretenses.
So write your Congressman, Senator and Governor and this issue will get handled sooner than later. As nobody that is legitimate needs to be without an ability to drive especially in a state that is not mass transporation friendly.
