Protect yourself against costly Appliance Repairs

The other day my kids, my wife and myself were feeling very cold at our house. Thermostat showed a reading of 65 F. So I bumped it up to 68 F....still no sign of Furnace starting up. So I decided to go down to the basement to check the furnace out.

I manually switched the furnace on. The flame would light up but then after a while it would die. As it turns out, the blower motor was not starting. It was 11 PM and I was not going to try something adventurous. So with some extra blankets we saw the night through.

First thing in the morning, I called a heating and cooling company. After 3-4 hours and spending almost $400 replacing the blower motor, our furnace started working and our home was warm again.

You know what! I could have avoided the expense had I listened to a friend who couple of weeks back had mentioned about Detroit Energy's Home Protection Plan. I did not sign up then because I was thinking that our house is fairly new and its too soon for appliances to fail.

There's no telling when another appliance will fail so I immediately signed up with Detroit Energy's Home Protection Plan. They have 5 different plans (Kitchen, A/C, Laundry, Core (which covers Furnace and Water Heater) and Ultimate Home Protection Plan). Check it out at Detroit Energy. Plan prices range from $9.95 to $23.95 a month.
