Shopping: Where to buy Dhol (or Percussion instruments)
I have been lazy lately and the winter induced some lack of motivation as well. Jeez, I sound like a true Michigander. Well anyway, here I am.
Vinny (my husband) plays dhol so, we were shopping for some percussion instruments last year, DHOL in particular and found Kalakendar.
Kalakendar is a wonderful musician's haven, based out of Toronto, Canada. They have a full service online store for sales on various instruments and also offer repair and service, parts for some instruments and such.

The music warehouse was formed in 1992 and specializes in authentic Indian instruments. They carry a variety, covering String, Percussion, Wind and electronic instruments and more. The site is neatly organized with pictures of what you buy. We bought a dhol and it was 'what you see is what you get'. It arrived safely in a tight packing with beautiful decorative tassles, the dhaga (Bass end stick) and the Tilli (Treble end stick) and a protective case. A follow up was made promptly from the store asking us how the experience was.
For those who want to drive to check out the store, it is located at this address.

Vinny is very happy with the dhol. "The sound is awesome", he grins!
He recently played it at the detroit westin hotel at the airport for a baraat. The hotel management got 13 complaints in 10 minutes, as the sound was bothering them. After all, those business travellers are trying to get an hour of good sleep.
